The global church today is growing—rapidly in many places. In the process, a significant shift is taking place. The center of the church is no longer in the western world. In fact, the churches of the West now make up only small portion of the global church and are generally not experiencing significant growth.
The geographical center of the Church is now in what is referred to as the "global South." The majority of Christians are now located in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. These are the areas where the Church is rapidly growing.
Along with the shift in center of the church, there is also a shift in the greatest need of the growing church. The regions that are growing are not short of laborers—they are short of training and resources to equip the laborers who are there. The locations where the church is expanding typically have few theological schools and formally-educated leaders, and often lack basic things such as Bibles, commentaries, theological books, and other resources in the language of the laborers.
There is some movement today to provide free and open resources and the training and software to translate them into any language. Examples include Bible translation resources by unfoldingWord. However, much more needs to be done, and the global church needs other resources besides Bible translation training.
The primary goal of Worldview is to provide examples of resources to help believers understand and use their newly-translated Bibles. But rather than deliver a package of western content for translation, we want to engage global believers in the process of discovery as they dig into and learn from their Bibles. Essentially, we don't want to try to feed them, but to teach them how to prepare their own 'meals' from the Scriptures.
The first example of this approach in action is the Worldview Study Questions on this site. Click on the link below to go there.
